Omar continues to be CM on state Govt websites Portals describe him dynamic, vibrant, 'youngest CM' in India | | | Peerzada Ummer Early Times Report
srinagar, Feb 9: The state government is still probably unaware that the former chief minister Omar has been relieved from his services last year and Governor's rule is in place in the state. The government run websites still have Omar as their chief minister smiling and grinning in colourful pictures. One such website is Chief Minister's secretariat. When accessed by the net users across the globe, it reveals that Omar Abdullah is the current chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir. The website also shows the working along with the pay scales of various officials attached with the office of the former chief minister. On its opening page is the smiling face of Omar placed in one corner and if one clicks through it, you will land in the page called the profile of the chief minister of Jammu And Kashmir State Omar Abdullah. The page in its starting lines reveal: "Mr. Omar Abdullah, the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, born on 10th March, 1970, held the distinction of being the youngest Chief Minister of India till recently. The scion of Kashmir's first family, a family that needs no introduction, and the offspring of Mrs. Mollie Abdullah and Dr Farooq Abdullah, he stands as a metaphor for hope, change and dynamism." In its note of conclusion, it maintains: "In terms of political economy, going against the trend of the times, that is, market fundamentalism, Mr. Abdullah believes in a balance between the State and markets. He has emphasized upon the building and generating of human and intellectual capital of the State and encouraged the participation of the educated youth in self employment with support from the State. The institution and establishment of the Sher-e-Kashmir Employment and Welfare Programme for Youth (SKEWPY) encapsulates this economic philosophy. Mr. Abdullah is also a sport loving and adventurous person. He loves outdoor sports like river rafting, tennis, skiing, scuba diving and motor cross driving." Ironically, on the complaint monitoring portal of the state wherein people have been asked to register their respective grievances, Omar Abdullah continues t0 dominate this site as well. For this website also, it is Omar who is the current chief minister of the state. The website known as JK grievance cell, besides describing Omar's bio- data like he has qualified B-Com and born on 10th March, 1970 at Rochford, Essex (U.K), it mentions that Omar has special interest in 'finding long-term solution to the problem of unemployment among the youth in Jammu and Kashmir.' The website eulogizes Omar further, saying he has been nominated Global Leader for Tomorrow by the World Economic Forum in 2000-2001; Led the Indian delegations to (i) UNESCAP Conference in Bangkok, Thailand, 2000;(ii) World Economic Summit in Rio-de-Janerio, Brazil, 2000;(iii)UN World Conference on Racism in Durban, South Africa, 2001; and (iv) Hajj Conference in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, @001; Prime Minister's Special Envoy to Libya, 2001; and Panelist in the Special Economic Forum Annual meeting in New York, 2002.' What is more ironical is that despite plethora of funds being spent out of the state exchequer for the upgrading and maintaining these websites, not even a single has so far been edited or merely updated in a bid to provide correct information to the people who want to know the functioning of the government in Jammu and Kashmir. It was earlier, the LA official website that had hosted the obsolete content. It was later removed when Early Times published a detailed report over it. It remains to be seen that would the government ever wake from its slumber and direct the NIC- which hosts the government portals here, to work as per the norms. And if not extra than at least what is being expected from it to deliver. |
