SC's notice to Union Govt on SSB volunteers petition | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Feb 9: A division bench of the Supreme Court of India comprising JJ Kurian Joseph and Justice N.V. Ramana today issued two weeks' notice to the government of India on a writ petition of SSB volunteers seeking absorption in the government jobs as per direction of several High Courts including Gauhati High Court, Himachal Pradesh High Court, Punjab & Haryana High Court. Prof.Bhim Singh, Sr. Advocate who appeared for about 30,000 SSB volunteers submitted in the court that SSB volunteers were enrolled following Chinese aggression and later they were enrolled in different border states for the defense of the local people as well as for providing intelligence feedback to the security forces on the anti-national activities of some disgruntled elements and foreign militants. Prof.Bhim Singh in his submission submitted that the Gauhati High Court at Imphal had directed the respondents to regularize the services of similarly situated VVF volunteers in 2000. The Supreme Court issued two weeks' notice to the Union of India. Prof.Bhim Singh said that a fresh application shall be filed in the Supreme Court now for the interim relief for the suffering SSB volunteers so that they may get some kind of relief for their physical survival. |
