Maintaining unity of J&K | Formation of PDP-BJP Govt imperative | | Rustam Early Times Report
JAMMU, Feb 9: Communal forces as represented by the defeated NC and the Congress, which misruled the state for six long years and further embittered the already bitter relations between Jammu province and Kashmir region, and marginal political groups like the CPI-M, the "Third Front" and so on do not want the PDP to stitch an alliance with what they term as "communal" BJP to form the next government in Jammu & Kashmir. They want the PDP to forge a grand alliance with other "Kashmir-centric" parties so that the BJP is kept out of the government. Even on Sunday, Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad, who could manage his victory in the February 7 Rajya Sabha elections by making his party tender an apology for what the Congress-led UPA Government under the law of the land did to Afzal Guru, convicted in the Parliament terror attack case and who was hanged on February 9, 2013 within the premises of Tihar Jail, Delhi, warned the PDP that the BJP would use it to implement its own agenda in the state. The fact of the matter is that the NC, the Congress, the CPI-M, the Third Front of disgruntled elements and almost all the separatist outfits in the Valley are one against the suggestion that the PDP-BJP coalition government alone could hand down a strong and stable government to the people, as they have 53 MLAs in the 87-member Assembly. Their whole onjective is to keep Jammu out of power. Significantly, there are also persons in the Valley who are all for the formation of the PDP-BJP coalition government. They are of the view that "it (PDP-BJP coalition) is the best we can get from mainstream politics". So much so, they equate the BJP with the Jammu province and opine that any attempt on the part of anyone in Kashmir to keep the BJP out of the government would mean a grave threat to the unity and integrity of the state. "Alienating the BJP would mean we are accepting Jammu is not a part of our state, which is not good. And, since there is a BJP government at the Centre which controls all funds, there will be no fun in excluding it here. The PDP and the BJP are a good combination for development and unity of the state", they say to make their point, which just cannot be brushed aside. Indeed, the participation of the BJP in the state government has become absolutely imperative. That's the reason the PDP didn't accept the NC's support or the Congress' support. That the PDP and the BJP have made up their mind to do political business together could be seen from the fact that both contested the Rajya Sabha election together and snatched from the NC-Congress combine three seats. Reports suggest that the talks between the PDP and BJP leadership are in an advanced stage and that the state is likely to get a popularly-elected government anytime from now. |
