JAMMU, Mar 16: The residents of Kot Bhalwal and other surrounding villages representing a population of about 25,000 people are protesting against the illegal dumping of garbage, waste, filth and sanitary waste in open in village Kallri in Kot area.
While addressing a media conference here today, Advocate Naresh Salgotra, who is also president of the newly formed Raipur-Domana Sangharsh Samiti (RDSS) informed the media persons that every day about 70-90 vehicles of garbage are being dumped in this open area of about 157 kanals by the Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC), which has created a havoc in the area with stink and odour besides stray dogs, pigs and vultures and other predators hover around.
The entire area is suffering due to such an act of the Municipal Corporation which the RDSS termed as illegal, arbitrary and an assault on the right of the people of the villages.
Salgotra informed that he has filed a petition for intervention on pollution pending before the State High Court.
He said that the "Right to life" of thousands of inhabitants of Kot Bhalwal and other villages is under grave threat by the hasty and illegal decision of the government and the JMC which created a garbage dumping area called the landfill in the vicinity of the villages.
