Early Times Report

Jammu, Mar 27: The encroachment of the land belonging to Kashmiri Pandits has been going on in Kashmir valley after their migration in 1990 and more than 200 complaints of encroachment have been registered in the offices of Deputy Commissioners of ten districts of Kashmir division but government seems least bothered.
As per the documents in possession of Early Times, maximum of 33 cases were registered in district Anantnag, followed by district Baramulla with 32 cases, Kupwara 29, Kulgam 22, Budgam 21, Pulwama and Srinagar 17 each, Ganderbal 16, Shopian 9, Bandipora 14 cases, but despite numbers of complaints of migrant community, the government failed to retrieve the encroached land which shows indifferent attitude of incumbent coalition government of state.
The documents further read that out of these cases only few have been addressed by government. A total of 15 Marlas of land was retrieved from the encroachers in district Baramullah, which is among the districts having maximum cases of encroachment. In district Kulgam 31 Kanals and 3 kanals land in Pulwama was retrieved so far.
In district Anantnag where maximum of 33 cases are registered, the government has failed to retrieve the land from even a single encroacher whereas in Bandipora a total of five Kanals of land has been retrieved by the government from the encroachers.
After the mass migration of Kashmiri Pandits from Kashmir, a total of 85,749 Kanals of land and 10155 numbers of structures belonging to Kashmiri Pandits were left behind in Kashmir valley, but the government failed to protect these properties from encroachers, which exposed the tall claims of the respective governments toward migrant community.
