| MC Lakhanpur forces workers to work at Minister's house, school | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Mar 27: Safai Karamcharis associated with Municipal Committee Lakhanpur are being forced to do household work in Minister's house.
It seems that gastroenteritis and diarrhoea cases were not enough to shake the authorities of their deep slumber, as they are making light of the issue by employing and deploying the Safai Karamcharis in the minister's house.
These Karamcharis have to clean the minister's house, wash clothes and take care of his school garden. Needless to say they don't get time to clean Lakhanpur which is the gateway of J&K.
A Karamchari said, MC Lakhanpur "E.O. and sanitary inspector forces us to work at the residence of the Minister from last many years in Kathua." Interestingly, these sweepers are duty-bound only under the jurisdiction of M.C Lakhanpur. But they are forced to work in the minister's school which is 17 km away from MC Lakhanpur.
Safai Karamcharis many times complained about their misuse, but to no avail. "These poor sweepers have to face the ire of the residents for poor civil amenities. They cannot muster courage to raise their voice," said sources.
Meanwhile, Safai Karmchari Union president Savan Cheeta criticized the MC Lakhanpur for this act and demanded the transfer of E.O. Lakhanpur Ravinder Singh.
Other union leaders said that apart from sweepers, gardeners were also serving at the house of minister. They accused the MC Lakhanpur of deploying many sweepers at the residences of the Minister.
They also alleged that the minister's wife uses abusive language and passes caste-related comments on them.
"We cannot take such comments and abusive language in a stride. But when we refused to go the minister's house and school, the EO and sanitary inspector threatened us and said that our service would be terminated," they said.
