| Kashmir-Centric leadership hell bent on weakening SKUAST-J | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Mar 27: Despite knowing that agriculture is the predominant occupation of the people of Jammu division, the Kashmir-centric leadership, in a very well planned conspiracy, is hell bent on weakening this sector by snatching research stations from the agriculture university Jammu.
The agriculture university in Jammu division, which is popularly known as Sher-e-Kashmir University for Agriculture and Sciences (SKUAST-Jammu) conducts new researches on agriculture and allied branches on these research stations which are the backbone of any varsity.
But, sources said, the present state government has moved a proposal to open a horticulture university and it has planned to include the research stations run by the SKUAST-J. This will severely hamper its research works in absence of these stations. SKUAST-J will be the major loser as it was established after a long struggle by the people of Jammu, and now with this move of government, these established stations will be snatched from them.
"There are three research stations in Jammu including Bhaderwah, Raya and Udheywala where research work is carried out. The SKUAST-J is at its early stage as compare to SKUAST-K. Any disturbance in its functioning will demean its value and status," sources said.
They said that to establish a new university, infrastructure, creations of new jobs from auxiliary staff to the faculty have to be created. But to carve out a new university from in an existing university is just befooling the people and robbing the resources of the parent university.
"The hasty decision of the government to establish horticulture university will paralyze and impede the functioning of already existing agricultural university. Resentment is brewing among the teaching faculty of SKUAST-J against the move of government," sources said. |
