| People stage massive protest at Mendhar, demands district status | | |  Early Times Report
Mendhar, Apr 5: The people of Mendhar Sub Division today held strong protest demonstration and blocked Mendhar-Jammu Road demanding District Status for Mendhar. The people including members of Beopar Mandal, Citizen Forum Mendhar and others irrespective of their party affiliation assembled in the main Chowk and then took out a strong protest march. After passing through main market, they reached the Main Chowk on Mendhar- Jammu Road and then raised barricades at around 11am. They were carrying banners depicting their demand of District Status at Mendhar.
Later, they sat on dharna on the road. The movement of vehicles on this busy Road came to halt Several local Peoples addressed the gathering and criticized the Government for ignoring Mendhar. The speakers pointed out that Mendhar deserves to be upgraded as it is more than 60 kms from Poonch district headquarters. Moreover it has vast area. The people have to go to Poonch for district level works there. The police party reached there and tried to lift then dharna and clear the Road at around 1 pm. The Tehasildar Mendhar Shahzad Khan has assured them that matter has been forwarded to the higher authorities for final decision on the issue. |
