Jammu, Apr 5: As uncertainty looms large over the fate of incumbent president of Pradesh Congress Committee, G A Mir, the state unit of the party has preferred to stay mum.
Even as speculations are agog that the PDP-BJP Coalition Government is unlikely to complete its full term and the Assembly elections arelikely to be held along with Lok Sabha polls in 2019, there is no mega show of strength by the Congress party except some public meetings by the party leader in individual capacity.
A silence also prevails at the Congress headquarters in Jammu, which otherwise witnesses hustle and bustle. Except some youth leaders, no known faces among senior Congress leadership in the state are visiting the party headquarters for the last more than a fortnight.
According to the sources in Congress, their silence is prevailing in the party in wake of uncertainty over the continuation of G A Mir as the PCC president after recently held AICC convention atNew Delhi.
Since the convention, the newly appointed AICC president Rahul Gandhi has replaced five presidents of Pradesh Congress Committees in different States. The developments have made it almost clear that G A Mir is also likely to be replaced as PCC president at any time in near future and reports suggest that the same has been even conveyed to him, sources said.
This is the reason that Mir has not visited Jammu, except a day for few hours, since the AICC convention and he has been purportedlytouring his Assembly Constituency Dooru, sources said and added that a direction in this regard is believed to be issued from the party highcommand.
In the wake of uncertainty over the fate of G A Mir, no activity at organization level is being organized by the Congress here with the result that a complete silence seems to have prevailed in the partywhich claims to replace the PDP-BJP alliance in the State and form next Government. |
