Modi, Mehbooba fail to contain terrorism
4/5/2018 11:13:00 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, Apr 5: Modi and Mehbooba government have failed to break the backbone of the terrorists in Kashmir valley. Modi government despite posturing has failed to make any impact in the valley to bring down the level of terrorism even to pre-2009 level. IGP Kashmir SP Pani had recently said that about 200 terrorists are active in the valley. He had though said the terrorism is not on increase. "The terrorist number has always been about 200 in the valley for about last two-decades. This is a tactical number which keeps terrorism kicking and attacking in the valley. So despite all out operations in the valley, the Modi government too has failed to made an impact," said a senior official. The sources said that there are many reasons involved in it and most notably are the inconsistency in policy approach of the government towards Kashmir. "The government has not been able to plan how to handle the Kashmir. It's like one step forward two-step-backward. Sometimes it says we will go all out against terrorists and then it says they are open to talks to all for finding a permanent solution. Two things can't go side-by-side and this confusion is keeping terrorism and separatism alive in the valley," said the senior official. Sources said the PM is getting feedback from the CM that things can improve by holding talks and it seems he too is listening to her. "CM has some political constituency to address. Talks can strengthen it. But, talks have been held for the last 70-years but yielded nothing and it kept the problem festering. Mehbooba knows it but is buying time to strengthen her political constituency and PM had failed to see through it," said the sources. The sources said strong note has been sent by the intelligence agencies to the PMO that unless corrective measures are taken to have clear policy on Kashmir, thing can go worse.
