Negligence of Govt deptts blamed for SBM failure
4/7/2018 11:34:34 PM
Early Times Report
Jammu, Apr 7: The negligent attitude of various government departments is being blamed for the failure of Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) in Jammu and Kashmir.
The garbage-littered lanes and filthy and chocked drains in each nook and corner of Jammu city are enough to expose the hollowness of the SBM Swatchta Pakhwara, which has become another ritualistic exercise.
The drain passing from Satwari has been chocked, with over three feet deep contaminated water, garbage, filth, polythene carry bags, for the last over six months. Despite repeatedly taken up the matter, no action has been taken by authorities so far. Few eateries are set up along this filth covered drain but no one is paying any heed towards the area.
Moreover, the Ranbir Canal which traverses from Nai-Basti area is full of filth, garbage, wastage from shops. Though the water flow in canal is closed for its desilting, the Irrigation department has proved fail to desist public, shopkeepers from throwing garbage in the canals, which are revered as per religious practices.
"The spirit behind Swachh Bharat Mission as well as Swatchta Pakhwara was inspirational. It was to create sensitivity among masses and officials of government departments about cleanliness. But these officials as well as common public have made it another ritual", Santosh Kumari said.
Since its beginning, the officials as well as common public have almost failed the motive behind the mission. "Lanes and drains are dirty, officials as well as common masses are as much negligent as it were before the launching of SBM. So such type of activities have almost defeated this purpose", Gian Singh said.
But in the press releases and photos published in various newspapers, the officials make tall claims but on ground it has become simply a publicity affair.
