JKPCC observes fast

Jammu, Apr 9: As part of the nationwide call of Congress Party, the JKPCC leaders and prominent workers observed 'Upwas (fast)' here today over the current social tensions in the Country ever since the present BJP Govt. took over in the Country.
AICC president Rahul Gandhi had given a call to party men to observe nationwide fast today at all state HQs and district HQs, with an aim to promote inter- people, inter-community and inter-caste harmony.
The prominent functionaries and senior leaders of the party held a day long Fast at Shahidi Chowk Jammu which was led by Sham Lal Sharma-Senior Vice President and attended by Vice Presidents Raman Bhalla, S. Gurmukh Singh, Kanta Bhan, R.S. Chib, Chief Spokesperson Ravinder Sharma, General Secretary Vikram Malhotra, Shabir Ahmed Khan, Manmohan Sigh, S.S. Channi, Namrata Sharma, Hilal Shah, Mahila President Indu Pawar (Ex-MLA), Ex-MLAs Th. Shiv Dev Singh, Prof. Gharu Ram, Krishan Lal Gupta, Y.B. Sharma besides others.
Addressing the gathering Former Minister Sham Lal Sharma in his address said that ever since the present government came to power, it has covertly as well as overtly functioned to exploit and vitiate the social fault lines that had been created during colonial period and had been painstakingly bridged by the congress party during the last 70 years. The Congress party is extremely perturbed by the state of unprecedented social tension and increasing inter societal distress existing in the Country. In view of this situation Congress party has come to the forefront to create an harmonious situation in the society by seeking the tension of the country men to the prevailing scenario.
He said that state of J&K is also passing through worst situations due to the opportunist alliance of PDP-BJP, who have created an atmosphere of discord and disharmony in the three region. He lashed out the policies and programmes of the state government which aims at creating wedge in the society for vested political interests.
Ravinder Sharma in his address briefed about the agenda of the day long "upwass" as the prevailing situation of social tensions has disturbed every right thinking citizen. He said Congress party believes in the principles of mutual respect and compassion based on ancient civilization of this country. Sharma expressed deep concern over the threat to the social fabric in Jammu region and blamed the present government for its wrong opportunist policies. Vikram Malhotra threw light about the threat to peace and harmony in the country and expressed concern over the failure of the centre government and BJP ruled states to check and curve violence during Bharat Bandh on April 2 and it has threatened the social fabric of the nation. Several other prominent leaders also spoke on the occasion and appealed to the people to maintain complete harmony in the society and not allow the vested interests to exploit the situation.
