PEEU holds protest, demands release of need based workers' wages

JAMMU, Apr 9: The Provincial Electrical Employees Union (PEEU) Jammu today held a protest demonstration here today in the office complex of Development Commissioner Power, Janipur in support of releasing of pending wages of need based workers and other demands of Power Development Department (PDD) employees.
The protest held under the chairmanship of PC Sharma, provincial president of the union.
The need based workers and other PDD employees in hundreds raised slogans in favour of their demands and called upon the government to consider release of pending wages of years together of 3405 need based workers, implementation of SRO-59 in favour of all PDD employees as per clear cut directions of Commissioner Secretary PDD to Chief Engineer EM&RE wing Jammu in meeting held with union in his office chamber on March 19 last, conducting of DPC's meeting for all cadres of PDD employees including daily wagers and implementation of SRO-149 in favour of ITI's and equivalent ITI's as per the clear direction of the High Court. Beside, the protesters also demanded implementation of 7th Pay commission in favour of all state government employees and removal of pay anomalies of clear cadre of all departments.
Speaking on the occasion, PC Sharma criticized the Finance department for not creating any budget provision for payment of pending wages of need based workers whose names have been included in the 60000 workers list adding that the government announcement of regularizing daily wagers is proving false.
Meanwhile, massive protest demonstration under the banner of J&K PDD, Need based casual labourers union held in front of Office of the Chief Engineer PDD, Canal Road here.
Hundreds of casual labours of PDD assembled outside the office of Chief Engineer and raised slogans in support of their demands urging the higher authorities of PDD to release their pending wages so that they can save their families from starvation as they have no other source of income.
While addressing the protesting workers Mohammad Gafoor Dar, state president JKNTUF stressed upon the authorities of PDD to release the pending wages of need based casual labours without any further delay.
