Early Times Report
Anantnag, April 19: After a series of reports highlighting the grave irregularities being committed by the authorities at Sher-e-Kashmir International Conference Centre (SKICC), Minister for Tourism Tassaduq Hussain Mufti on Thursday finally ordered attachment of Director SKICC Yasmeen Khan along with engineering staff. The Minister issued the orders in connection with the allegations against the officer(s) for violation of rules and norms amounting to abuse of official position, breach of trust, thereby inflicting a huge loss to the state exchequer. On December 20 last year, Early Times carried a report titled 'SKICC allegedly accepts exorbitant rates for repairing sofas, chairs'. The report highlighted how irregularities were being committed in the SKICC. "News reports published by your newspaper from time to time actually prompted the Minister to look into the allegations," an officer posted at SKICC revealed. Executive Engineer of SKICC had accepted through acceptance letter No. SKICC/EE/17/681-84 DATED 20/09/2017 that it will pay 6272 rupees for repairing a sofa seat and Rs 4224 for a single chair. The total cost of repairing sofas and chairs finally had raised up to Rs 1367296 and 1267200 respectively, the ET had reported last year. Another report highlighted that how a private cellular company which organized two day function in SKICC was charged for only single day. Similarly a renowned hospital organized a function but bill wasn't charged as per the occupancy. A third news report in the same month titled, '2 years on, SKICC fails to recover due payment from event manager' also exposed the deep rooted corruption and nepotism prevailing at SKICC. Now it will be interesting see how the Minister concerned will deal with the issue. |
