Misinformation campaign to malign Jammu
Kathua episode
4/20/2018 12:25:32 AM
Early Times Report

Jammu, Apr 19: A no-holds-barred misinformation has been unleashed by vested interests in J&K and New Delhi to tarnish the image of the people of Jammu and divert the nation's whole attention from the real issues on which the people of Jammu. Theirs' movement is movement to save Jammu.
The stand of the people of Jammu on the alleged Kathua rape and murder case was very clear: Punish the real culprits, don't harass and torture innocents and only a CBI probe into the unfortunate case could give justice to the victim and save innocents from vicitimisation, torture and harassment. Their resolutions and all its press statements reiterate again and again that the real culprits must be brought to justice so that no one in future dared to commit such heinous crimes.
Mercifully, the vested interests are using all avail means to mislead the national and international opinion through the misinformation campaign unleashed from Srinagar, New Delhi, Islamabad, London, New York, Washington and so on to create an impression that the people of Jammu province in general and Jammu civil society groups in particular have been siding with rapists and criminals.
The truth is that when on April 11 Jammu observed bandh on an unprecedented scale against the BJP in particular and the state government in general, the Jammu lawyers and civil society members made it quite clear that since the chargesheet in the case had been filed, they would not take up this issue though they would always favour a CBI probe as the "demand for such a probe was constitutional and not communal".
This misinformation campaign was part of a larger conspiracy. The two major demands of the people of Jammu and Jammu lawyers put forth were, and are: Deportation of Rohingyas and Bangladeshi illegal immigrants from Jammu and withdrawal of the highly objectionable and unconstitutional February 14, 2018 minutes of the Tribal Affairs Department.
They want these two issues to be highlighted by one and all, as they are of great Jammu and national import. They demand deportation of illegal immigrants urging the authorities that their presence in Jammu constituted a live threat to the Jammu's demography and national security and that their deportation from Jammu would help maintained population balance in the province and defeat those in Kashmir who settled them at strategic locations in Jammu for ulterior purposes.
They are describing their settlement in Jammu as "demographic aggression".
The Jammu civil society, including lawyers, has started the movement to force the PDP-BJP government to withdraw minutes of the meeting of the Tribal Affairs Department. Their argument is that these were violative of law, section 188 of Ranbir Penal Code and Cruelty to Animals Act. They are, in fact, demanding withdrawal of three specific Government directions to the Deputy Commissioners of Jammu, Kathua, Samba and Udhampur and IGP Jammu and police, saying these promoted land grabbing in Jammu and bovine smuggling.
These directions were: (1) Deputy Commissioners particularly of Jammu, Kathua, Samba and Udhampur shall not disturb or dislocate a member or families of the tribal Gujjar-Bakkerwal population from the lands which they illegally occupied and that if their dislocation was necessary, the concerned authorities should first seek permission from the Tribal Affairs Minister; (2) the police shall not provide protection for the eviction of encroachers of the state and forest land unless permitted by the Tribal Affairs Minister; and (3) police shall not invoke Section 188 of Ranbir Penal Code and provisions of the Cruelty to Animals Act even if they smuggle animals, including bovines, from one place to another.
All these directions have alarmed the people of Jammu province and very rightly, as they officially promoted land grabbing and demographic assault on Jammu.
These are the real issues the people of Jammu have been taking up, but the anti-Jammu forces are focusing on an issue which has virtually become a non-issue after the filing of chargesheet in the Kathua case. It's only natural that the concerned people of Jammu are terming the focus on the Kathua issue as part of a larger conspiracy hatched to tarnish the image of Jammu people and divert the nation's attention from the two real issues concerning demographic changes in Jammu.
