SRINAGAR, Apr 19: There seems to be complete anarchy and confusion with respect to the functioning of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) coalition government in Jammu & Kashmir.
This situation was witnessed couple of days yet again. Although, all the BJP ministers resigned from their portfolios on April 17 some of the party leaders maintained that no such development has taken place. As on date there is complete confusion in this regard and the picture is somewhat unclear.
Minister for Health & Medical Education, Bali Ram Bhagat and General Secretary (Organization) BJP, Ashok Koul were quoted by some sections of media that no BJP minister has resigned. On the other hand there were others in the party who said that all the BJP ministers resigned adding that same has been done to pave way for reshuffle of cabinet.
Interestingly, on the same day the government said that portfolios held by Chaudhary Lal Singh and Chander Prakash Ganga have been allocated to Deputy Chief Minister, Nirmal Singh. If the portfolios were allocated to Deputy Chief Minister one fails to understand then what was the reason for the BJP ministers to resign from the government headed by Mehbooba Mufti.
Sources told Early Times that there was no need for the BJP ministers to resign since it was decided that some new faces would be inducted to replace Lal Singh and Ganga in the state cabinet. They said that it was all out of the confusion that BJP ministers resigned on the pretext that same is being done to facilitate the cabinet reshuffle.
"There is no denying the fact that the ministers in PDP-BJP coalition government don't know what to do and at what time. Confusion is more among the BJP ministers these days following the Kathua rape and murder incident. Since two ministers of the party were forced to resign their colleagues are not able to come up to the terms at present," said sources.
Sources said that it is not a big deal for the ministers to resign once the chief minister of any state decides to expand the cabinet or reshuffle the same. They said that BJP has made it in an issue only to pressurize its coalition partner so as to make its 'ends' meet and 'coerce' PDP to be ready for probe by Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in the Kathua rape and murder incident.
"The calculation of BJP seems to have backfired as PDP has made its stand clear that it would not support the CBI probe in this incident. The criticism of the chief minister by Lal Singh has also virtually embarrassed the party since it is in coalition with PDP in Jammu & Kashmir. It remains to be seen how the things unfold in the coming days or weeks," said sources.
It would be in place to mention here that Lal Singh and Ganga were shown the door after they took part in the rally organized by Hindi Ekta Manch in Kathua in the first week of March.
