Babus revoke ban on Kashmir coaching centers mysteriously!
5/2/2018 10:46:03 PM
Early Times Report
Jammu, May 2: The controversial ban on coaching centers in Kashmir has been suddenly revoked by the Directorate of School Education Kashmir (DSEK) raising eyebrows over the "mysterious" decision.
Vide a formal government order, the DSEK has revoked the ban on over a 100 coaching centers in Kashmir but allegedly without taking the new Education Minister Chowdhary Zulfikar Ali into confidence.
Officials said given the fact that the 90-day ban was imposed last month on the directions of Ali's predecessor, Syed Altaf Bukhari, the decision couldn't be revoked without the orders of the minister concerned.
But sources said Ali is "totally unaware of as to how the ban was invoked or revoked, done all without his knowledge."
What has raised suspicion over the revocation of the ban by the officers at the DSEK, is that a section of national media had reported that coaching centers in Kashmir are worth around Rs 250 annual business and that some forces were looking for "commission" to get the ban revoked.
"In the midst of such allegations of kickbacks, how come the ban has been suddenly revoked when the government had said that coaching centers need to be remain shut in Kashmir for 90 days for improvement in law and order situation," said a senior official on the condition of anonymity.
On April 22, the government ordered the closure of all private tuition centres in Kashmir Valley in the backdrop of strong student protests.
This decision to close coaching centers was taken at a meeting of the Education department and an announcement was made by the then Minister for Education, during a meeting with Principals, Zonal Education Officer's (ZEO's) and Chief Education Officers (CEO's) of different higher secondary schools of the valley.
At the meeting the Minister had said, "I want to focus on the normal functioning of the schools. We found private tuition centres one of the distractions of the students. The respective principals will report the list of all teachers who are working in private coaching centres within seven days."
The next day the Directorate of School Education Kashmir had issued formal orders to ban the coaching centers.
When contacted a senior official in the DSEK said the ban had to be revoked following some "understanding".
Despite repeated attempts the Director Education wasn't available for comments.
