Early Times Report

Jammu, May 4: All hopes are on new Health Minister, Dr Davinder Kumar Manyal that he would start renovation of Sir Colonel R N Chopra Hospital which was closed down for repairing nearly a year ago.
In August 2017, the administration of Government Medical College Jammu closed down the nursing home for repairs after finding its roof leaking. Since then the administration has not renovated the nursing home, with the result patients are heavily suffering.
On August 1, 2017, the Government Medical College & Hospital (GMC&H) issued a circular wherein it was stated that the nursing home was being closed for renovation. A two-member committee of the then Medical Superintendent of GMC and Deputy Medical Superintendent of RN Colonel Chopra Nursing Home had submitted a report recommending that the hospital should be closed for repairs.
"Now the question arises that if both the administrators submitted the report before higher ups for closing down it, why has the Health department not prepared a Detail Project Report (DPR) nor initiated renovation work so far", sources asked.
A head of the department in GMC alleged that a conspiracy had been hatched at the then ministry level after which the administration of GMC locked down only ground and first floor which houses operation theatre and recovery ward. Other floors are still running smoothly. "If leakage is taking place at the top floor, why did they lock ground and first floor." The HoD asked. "It shows something is fishy in the whole episode." Now it's on the incumbent Health Minister who after taking oath had assured public that all possible steps be taken to streamline the ailing health care facilities. "On an average three surgeries were conducted in the nursing home. Apart from generating revenue for government, it was serving the needy people who didn't afford to go to private nursing homes", the HoD said.
