Are the dalits going to be deciding factor in Indian politics-A Review
5/9/2018 9:24:32 PM
Kanchan Basu

The year 2018 as a trend to control the 'Social Politics' of this country with a new line. Along with the social system there is a clear indication of the new political equalization.
Incident occurred in Maharashtra on the very first day of the year centring ground a two hundred year old battle with which there was no direct contact with political power etc. This battle which inflamed for two days destroying human life and property with unabated looting and police remaining silent spectators.
Actually the battle was held two hundred years ago on 1st January, 1818 between the forces of East India Company and Brahmin Peshwa's in Maharashtra. At that time under the occupation of East India Company Peshwa Baji Rao II sent two thousand troops to free Pune city from British occupation. They were registered at Koregaon the British Army had the untouchable the Dalit, Mahars who were extremely torture by Brahmins and Upper Cast people. The Peshwa were defeated by the twelve hour battle.
But not the British, the actual the victorious were the Mahars. To them this victory was a unique revenge against the upper cast people for a big downtrodden class of people it was a really renaissance.
After the victory in battle a Monument was erected in Koregaon on which inscribed names of 22 Mahars who are killed in the battle. To celebrate the two hundred anniversary of the victory that Dalit assemble in the park in large number. The right Wing Organisation of Maharashtra to whom the battle of Koregaon was a fight of the Indian Nationalist against the British Colonial Rule became united resist the gathering. The upper cast including Peshwas in Maharashtra consider the Dalit Mahar the supporter of the British and Anti National. The conflict arrows out of it.
But Koregaon-Bhiva was not a battle of Dalit upsurge in true sense of the term. The area came into limelight when Dr. Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar first visits in the place in 1927. Every year local Dalit leaders pay homage to the martyrs and function is held there with fair (mela) etc. But this year (2018) it was not so. The roiling party of Maharashtra has accused the Dalit M.L.A. of Gujarat Jignesh Mevani won the election by the support of Congress (I) Party.
A few months ago nobody knew Jignesh Mevani, Alpesh Thakor and Hardik Patel but the support of Congress (I) they almost defeated B.J.P. in Gujarat. Now the whole of India knows them. The rolling party was afraid of this trio. On 31st December, 2017 Jignesh Mevani went to Pune and called for Dalit upsurge from a mass meeting. The very next day on 1st January, 2018 a few lacs of Dalit assembled at Koregaon. At the same time there assembled Upper Cast youth of Hindu organization backed by B.J.P. There was a clash and violence Dalits called for Maharashtra Bandh and we all know what happen.
In this country such type of instigation is known. All know what happen regarding Ram-Rahim arrest.
But occurrence of Maharashtra on 1st January, 2018 is important from political point of view. All most unknown youth are coming to the front to challenge the political leaders. They are creating pressure on Government by uniting small groups of people. Unabatedly new groups of vote bank are being created Government learns to respect them in the interest of election. So, political line is getting change continuously.
In fact 'MANDAL POLITICS' is great example of rise of backward society to resist it B.J.P. took up 'Kamandulu Politicis'. In fact Gujarat election clearly shows that B.J.P. has failed to come out of 'Hindutwa Politics'. So to resist the slogan of development of B.J.P., when Congress (I) joined hand with Jignesh Mevani, Alpesh Thakor and Hardik Patel, B.J.P. was afraid and had embraced to that 'Hindutwa'. Of course B.J.P. see future challenge in this cast politics. Particularly because clean administration is still slogan and economic development centring employment has became a bad omen.
For this reason Jignesh Mevani, Alpesh Thakor and Hardik Patel are getting so much political importance. Besides economic grievance is behind the movement of 'Patidar in Gujarat', 'Gujjar in Rajasthan', 'Jatt in Haryana' and 'Maratha in Maharashtra'. The more agriculture income going downwards, the more increasing demands of reservation. It is a fact that Chief Minister of Maharashtra and top leaders of B.J.P. are blaming Jignesh for disturbances in Koregaon. But they do not like go deep into causes of the disturbances on the 1st day of the year. It is because of problem of Upper Cast Hindutwa. For this so much attack of Dalits which began with 'Rohit Bhumla'. Nobodies know where it will end! Neither Central nor State has being able to assure to 'Dalits'. On the other hand excess protection of cows as shown the Dalits connected with Beef and Leather Industries without this uncertainty and doubt regarding livelihood Koregaon could not become so much important.
In fact Jignesh Mevani, Alpesh Thakor and Hardik Patel become leaders through movement. In the same way came out Ram Vilas Paswan regarding Koregaon incident he said about Jignesh that if established leader fail, new leader will come out. In fact generation has different expectation and demands which the old leaders were understand.
Among established Dalit leader Ram Vilas Paswan in Bihar and Mayawati in Uttar Pradesh have become negligible. Mayawati has no presence outside Uttar Pradesh. Dalits of Haryana, Gujarat, Maharashtra or any other state do not rally behind them with their 'Vote Bank'. Whereas they are thronging at the call of Jignesh. Jignesh was not allowed to address a rally in Delhi. Now the question arises whether new generation ignoring old Dalit leaders who are trying to amass fortune were getting separated from Dalits live in 'Below Poverty Level' (B.P.L.). Actually they need self criticism. B.J.P. also needs a survey. In the case of running Government and Party they may lose track. If they lay more important on Upper Cast Hinduism.
Ramdas Athawale on Republican Party of India who is Central Minister and Dalit leaders of Maharashtra has understood that Koregaon incident has been loosen soil from his feet. He has raised the question whether he will be with B.J.P. in future. Unlike Brahmin Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Ramdas Athawale did not accuse Jignesh Mevani for Koregaon incident. On the contrary Ramdas called Jignesh not to divide society but to unite it.
Of let some new incidents occurred in Indian Politics. The 1989 Act was amendment by Supreme Court on 20th March, 2018 because said that any person accused of attacking on Schedule Cast or Schedule Tribe cannot be arrested without approval appointing authority. In this way Government Employees could be said from being harassed. On the other hand the Dalit Organization demands that if law becomes light attack on Dalit could increase. In this context India observed 'BHARAT BANDH' on 2nd April and 10th April, 2018 again. Most of Northern India was affected by this 'BANDH' which took a lot of lives and property. Varese area including Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Gujarat, Punjab and Haryana was seriously affected. Of course after the trouble Central Government has filed a petition with this Supreme Court to reconsider the judgement.
The much divided Indian Society is going to take a new term in the new year of 2018. People wait for political adjustments and equation.
