Major scandal in allotment of PG seats in Medical Colleges
"Category seats converted into general to adjust BOPEE's official and senior doctor's kin"

Early Times Report

JAMMU, May 9: The aspirants for the Post Graduation courses in various disciplines in Government Medical colleges of the state, have alleged that the seats, reserved for various categories, have been converted into General category, only to pave way for the adjustment of the daughter of an official of Board of Professional Entrance Examination (BOPEE) and the wards of some senior doctors.
At present the counselling for PG seats in various Medical Colleges has been going on at Bahu Plaze Jammu, where some aspirants leveled serious allegations of corruption and undue favour to wards of BOPEE officials as well as senior doctors. The wards of doctors as well as BOPEE officials have secured very less marks and some have stood at very far in merit list, aspirants alleged, adding that there were few number of seats under General Category, so to adjust the wards of officials, some more general seats are required.
On Wednesday, the PG aspirants were called at 9 AM for counselling but due to some unknown reasons, counselling was not started upto 11 AM. "The MBBS qualified candidates, who are aspirants for PG courses, were forced to sit there for three hours without water and any information regarding the delay in counselling", an aspirant said.
The aspirants also staged protest against the alleged callous attitude of the concerned controller of BOPEE, Chairman MA Bukhari and other officials. "Our entry inside the room was restricted, where BOPEE officials were present. We aspirants were not allowed to go inside the room and didn't given any reason for delay", the PG aspirants said.
An aspirant, Dr Akhil Gupta said that the aspirants sought to meet the BOPEE officials and asked them about conversion of category seats into Open, they didn't give any reply. He alleged that the students were restricted because the officials sitting in the room were enjoying the tea and were formulating a policy to adjust those people who were not in the merit. "Chairman threatened students to debar all, if they call media. We want this chairman should resign because he is trying his best to adjust his kin by converting the seats, "he further alleged.
Senior doctors as well as aspirants believed that counseling should have been online for accountability and transparency but BOPEE had failed to do the same and called for physical counselling.
"Moreover, only one day was given to aspirants to join and it was almost impossible for a candidate of Jammu to join in Srinagar, on very next day. This was done only to create seats for their relatives and wards", another aspirant alleged.
Chairman of BOPEE Mohammad Ashraf Bukhari said that the unfilled category seats have been carried to third round today. As per Reservation Act JK, the seats could have been converted during first round. "We were already late by one month due to litigations but the board worked 24/7 to ensure that seats do not remain vacant as these cannot be filled up after last date which is 12th," he added.
He further told that only unfilled category seats of any are being converted into open and only 5 seats are available out of which 3 belong to ALC for which no candidates are available. Two seats under RBA are being filled up.
