In search of a Dogra
6/3/2018 10:17:56 PM
Jamwal Mahadeep Singh
This refers to editorial in ET dated 3 June 2018, scripted by Col JP Singh titled 'In search of a Dogra'. The writer taking start up from a rally taken from Lakhanpur up to Kootah citing it as 'in search of a Dogra' then passing on to Rasana and commenting 'Jammu has no leader', his sympathies towards sacked ministers and giving them verdict of their no fault, refreshing the memory of Jambu Lochan founder of Jammu from 'Suryabanshi' clan. The script advances with some mentions about State history and aspirations of Kashmir based leaders attempt to diminish Dogra heritage. The script is concluded in favor of Ch. Lal Singh crediting him for the rally and that 'he has put his best foot forward to lead Jammu to its positive glory', giving account of his rallies and meetings after being sacked from the ministry and pinning his hopes with last lines 'Jammu is bouncing back under the leadership of a versatile Dogra'. In actuality that writer has failed to perceive, is the encashment of sentiments of those demanding CBI probe in Rasana case in a well architected political gimmick that an average person fail to understand, culminating to gathering that appears to be historical to the writer. Had the rally been to get oneself recognized as leader of Dogra, it would not have invited arrest warrants against some participants of the rally for their derogatory remarks against an authority constitutionally mandated. So it was political show of strength managed by money power. With all respect and honor to the sentiments of the writer, I am of the view that writer is somewhere not fair with the public just by throwing light on one aspect of the person referred in his write up? He has projected a particular person as leader of Dogras. It would have been in the fitness of things if writer has depicted the changing colors of a politician from Congress (T) to Congress (I) and then to BJP. The mammoth gathering and meetings is no more a yardstick to brand someone as voice of people. Such trickeries we have seen hundred times from the politicians in order to influence the political parties for their survival. There are many such organizations projecting themselves as savior of Dogra but if we perceive in depth all are there to show their presence only for invitations from administration and government. When we speak of Dogras, their histories are full of velour and sacrifices and all have unblemished track at their back. When we look into the political scenario in Jammu, it is a divided house and indifferent voices but all carry in their mind the word 'Dogra' that can be well exploited across region. We have to admit and to find out, who are actual Dogras as Jammu is habituated by people of different faith and religion such as Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs, Christians, and Refugees, Kashmiri migrants from valley and settlers from Kashmir. These all are not part of Dogra culture and Dogra heritage although settled on the land that was once part of Dogra rulers. So talking of only Dogra means avoiding of others who are not part of Dogras and it will be in the fitness of things if we talk of Jammuite (I mean people of whole region of Jammu division) for preserving Dogra culture, Dogra heritage (scattered across region) side by side of all others in the region
