Early Times Report

JAMMU, June 4: The claims of the former Health Minister to start Post-Graduate Courses in Indira Gandhi Government Dental College (IGGDC) in the current session ( May 2018) have fallen flat as Jammu University has denued nod to start the course because the college didn't get clearance from National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) .
Pertinently, since the establishment of IGGDC Jammu, PG course has not been started due to lethargic approach of the concerned whereas Dental College Srinagar has been running PG course for last many years.
Sources told Early Times that the course was supposed to be started in May 2018 but owing to poor approach to introduce such course in Jammu as they failed to get clearance from NAAC, which is made compulsory by Dental Council of India (DCI) for all dental colleges throughout India to have accreditation by NAAC for running such course.
"As officials of IGGDC Jammu had applied for approval, the officials of the University of Jammu didn't allow them to start the same as they failed to have accreditation from NAAC and asked them to apply for getting clearance from NAAC first and then after obtaining approval, college will go up with this course, which is great set back to aspirants as well as Jammu Dental College, "sources informed.
Surprisingly, the private college in Jammu got clearance form NAAC as they had applied timely but the Government College failed to get yet for best reasons known to them. Sources added that the aspirants have been forced to wait up to next year. Despite knowing that the aspirants are running from pillar to post for higher studies, the administration seems not serious to start this course in Jammu.
Even, former Minister for Health had assured in Legislative Assembly that the course would be started from this year as there is great demand from the students from the Jammu province, who have to go outside for pursuing future studies.
When contacted Director of College Development Council, Professor Rajni Kant confirmed that the permission to Dental College Jammu was denied because they have failed to get authorization certificate form NAAC.
The principal of IGGDC Jammu, Dr Romesh Singh was not available for comments.
