Early Times Report

Rajouri, July 3: Rajouri police has converted a mysterious drowning death incident into a case of murder and has also managed to identify and arrest the prime accused with the help of writings on Thermocol sheet that was found wrapped with the body.
SSP Rajouri Yougal Manhas said that on 29-05-2018, an information was received at Police Station Nowshera that one partially decomposed un-identified dead body was found floating in the river Manwar Tawi Nowshera near lift irrigation scheme Rajal and a police team was swung into the action which conducted spot verification and it was observed that the dead body was wrapped in a blanket and was tied by ropes in a thermocol material.
"During initial investigation, it was observed that circumstances are not relating to a case of drowning and something fishy has taken place" said SSP Rajouri.
"To ascertain the actual circumstances in which said man had died, a team comprising of SDPO Nowshera Khaliq Choudhary, then SHO Nowshera Karan Chalotra and ASI Javed Mirza under the overall supervision of Addl SP Nowshera Master Popsy was framed. The team found that the thermocol sheet recovered from the spot was written with two names; Aftab and Azhar Ali and the hand writing was most probably of some child", said SSP Manhas.
"It came to the fore that Aftab is the child of one Mohd Farooq son of Jameel Hussain of Rajal near Irrigation Department Dak Banglow and Azhar Ali is the son of Mohd Mushtaq son of Jameel Hussain of Garan and both these children used to go t o house of their neighbour who was commonly known as Younis with an aim to play with his children", added SSP Rajouri. Both these boys accepted before police that they wrote their names on the Thermocol sheet in the house of Younis.
While the inquiry was going on, the deceased came to be identified as Manzoor Hussain son of Khoju of Ward No.4 Qasba Bala Nowshera who was a Mason by profession and had gone missing since 26-05-2018 morning. However no missing report was yet lodged with local Police by his legal heirs. His body was handed over to his legal heirs for last rites, he informed media persons.
During the course of investigation of phone records of deceased, it was found that the deceased was called by one Younis, in whose house two children had written their names on Thermocol sheet, and all the people in the said area knew him by the name of Younis of Budhal Rajouri but during further investigation, it came to fore that the exact identity of Younis is not clear to anyone.
"After hectic efforts, team headed by SDPO Nowshera Khaliq Choudhary succeeded in apprehending the suspect from a Dhok (higher range) in Bhaderwah Tehsil of district Doda who during questioning revealed his full identity as Zahoor Hussain alias Younis son of Feroz Din Chowdhary of village Laswara Makhanpur Tehsil Bishnah District Jammu and also confessed to his involvement in the crime", said SSP.
He said that during questioning, it has been revealed by the accused that deceased Manzoor Hussain son of Khoju Gujjar has developed illicit relationship with his (accused's) wife and somehow the accused came to know about all this.
"On 25-05-2018 he called up deceased Manzoor Hussain, a mason by profession, on the pretext of some work as the accused used to work as labourer with the deceased in the past and when deceased Manzoor Hussain reached the spot (scene of crime), accused Zahoor Hussain was well prepared and attacked deceased Manzoor Hussain with an axe thereby leading to his on spot death", said SSP.
"After this the accused wrapped the dead body in a blanket and a sheet of Thermocol (on which names of children were written) and threw it into Manwar Tawi. The articles like mobile phone of the deceased and the red colour suit brought by the deceased were put into a polythene and also thrown into river by the accused " SSP said while sharing details of confession made by accused during police questioning.
He added that a team headed by present SHO Nowshera Romal Singh is conducting further investigation into the case under the supervision of SDPO Nowshera Khaliq Choudhary and Addl SPNowshera Master Popsy.
