Girls in KGBV boarding school feel neglected
7/3/2018 10:40:49 PM
Early Times Report

Ramban, July 03: The government launched various schemes to provide quality education to the students especially to the females and huge funds are spent on the same, but the students are not getting any benefit.
One such glaring example is the girl inmates studying in Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV) boarding school in Chanderkote area of district Ramban which is totally neglected and deprivation of facilities as per the norms fixed by the union government under the Sarva Siksha Abhiyan (SSA).
There are a total of hundred girls out of which 24 are in 6th, 31 in 7th and 35 in 8th standard, but the people sitting at the helm of affairs neglect the students and are busy in their own world.
A student on the condition of anonymity said that the doors and floors of our toilets and bathrooms are broken and many a times we have to clean them as the sweeper often remains absent.
We are usually asked to work in kitchen by the cook and even sweep kitchen, classrooms and verandah.
She further said that we have not been provided any chappals, socks, dupatta ,bags and geometry boxes for past three years.
Two girls are asked to share a mattress, a bed sheet, a blanket and a pillow adding that we often get our stationery and books late and are still short of notebooks and we have to drink hot tap water.
"We don't have the facility of indoor games and are never taken out for the outdoor games. We have never been taken out for a picnic and involved in any co-curricular activity. We don't have neither any television nor any library and computer not to speak of Computer Teacher,"she said.
It is pertinent to mention here that since the sanctioning this KGBV in 2008-9 this is the third rented building hired and its rent is Rs.50,000 per month.
Ironically, there is no dearth of funds. Each girl is suppose to provide annually a stipend of Rs.900,Rs.1000 for the drinking water and electricity; Rs.1000 for Teaching Learning Material ; Rs.1250 for other food ingredients except ration; Rs.750 for medical expenses; Rs.750 for miscellaneous items and so on.
When contacted Chief Education Officer (CEO) , Ramban Abdul Hamid Fani said "I am constituting a enquiry committee of high level officer and do the needful at accordingly.
"Once the enquiry committee will submit the report in my office I will definitely let to you," CEO maintained.
"I also constitute a 3 member committee who will keep on a check about the working system of the boarding school" he added.
