Drugs worth lakhs found scattered in Gugaldora hamlet | | | S Tahir-ul Haq Early Times Report TANGMARAG, July 13: At a time when poor patients run from pillar to post for want of medicines in the government hospitals, a huge quantity of medicines have been thrown by some inefficient and corrupt health official in the dense woods of a small hamlet of Gugaldora in Tangmarag area of this north Kashmir. According to sources, a huge quantity of medicines including antibiotics were found dumped in the dense woods of Gugaldora a small hamlet almost 15 kms away from here. Earlier the locals had accused of distributing the government medical supply to their relatives. They said that, due to sheer negligence of the health authorities the medicine was about to expire in some four or five months, but before the expiry of the medicine huge quantity of it was thrown in Injuwari nallah in Gogaldara forests of Tangmarag area. However, locals of Tangmarg presume that the medicines might have been destroyed by the government run hospitals, as 95% of medicine are still life saving drugs and small quantity of it was expired. Locals alleged that huge quantity of medicines get expired in hospitals every year due to negligence of staff as they do not supply it to the poor patients who run from pillar to post for want of medicines. Meanwhile the health officials at Tangmarag have said that medical supply has not be destroyed or taken away or stolen from any of the hospitals in Tangmarag area. Local populace have requested the Governor and other high officials to investigate the matter that why huge quantity of medicine was destroyed in the forest area of Gugaldora, when the same would have been distributed among the poor patients of Tangmarag area. |
