Early Times Report

Jammu, July 13: After a thorough discussion within the party, the Congress high command has finally felt it better to reconcile with strongman Sham Lal Sharma who had resigned from the post of senior vice-president three months ago in protest against alleged pick and choose in selection of district presidents.
According to reliable sources in Congress, the party high command had a series of meetings with Sharma at New Delhi for discussing political strategy in Jammu and Kashmir, keeping in view the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections as well as the state elections, which could also be round the corner.
Detailed deliberations were held by Sharma with Ghulam Nabi Azad, Ambika Soni and other senior leaders, who sought to convenience the former that Congress could not afford to ignore him in the state, particularly in Jammu province, which has remained main stronghold of the party, sources informed.
Sources said that Soni and Azad also hinted at reconstitution of the Pradesh Congress Committee in the next few months for rejuvenating the party in Jammu and Kashmir and also assured that Sharma would have a significant role in the organization.
It may be recalled that Sharma had resigned from the post of senior vice-president of the PCC three months back alleging pick and choose by the PCC president G A Mir in constitution of block and district committees.
Even as the party is tightlipped over the future strategy of Congress in Jammu and Kashmir, sources said that Sharma strongly recommended a nationalist approach with slogan for regional councils to take on main rival BJP in Jammu region.
Sources said that a few more rounds of the discussion are likely to be held by the Congress high command with the state unit leaders to finalize its strategy in Jammu and Kashmir where the party is caught in a fix over taking stand vis-à-vis Kashmir centric issues. Whatever stand is taken by the party, sources added that is likely to play significant role as assured by the high command.
