Renowned actress Sharmila Tagore, several MLAs meet Governor

Srinagar, July 13: Renowned actress Sharmila Tagore and several Members of Legislative Assembly (MLAs) on Friday met Jammu and Kashmir Governor N N Vohra at Raj Bhavan here on Friday.
An official spokesman said here this evening that Ms Tagore, who is visiting Kashmir on a holiday, met Governor and First Lady at the Raj Bhavan.
Ms Tagore shared with the Governor and First Lady, her reminisces of the 1960s and 70s when she had visited the Valley on many occasions, when it was among the most preferred locations for film shooting. She also spoke about experiences during her current visit.
Governor and First Lady wished Ms Tagore good health and happiness and requested her to visit Kashmir every year. Muzzafar Hussain Baig, Member of Parliament (MP) also met Mr Vohra at the Raj Bhavan.
Baig discussed with the Governor important issues relating to the equitable development of the State and the need to ensure the high success of various schemes and programmes in the "Aspirational" Districts of Baramulla and Kupwara.
The Governor urged AIG to remain fully involved and see that all the flagship programmes were fully implemented not only in his constituency but all over the state.
Chowdhary Zulfkar Ali, former Minister and MLA Darhal also met Mr Vohra at the Raj Bhavan.
Former Minister briefed the Governor about the ongoing schemes in his Constituency and projected certain demands which included attention to making educational institutions functional; upgradation of schools; establishment of Kendriya Vidayalya at Nagrota, Rajouri; four laning of Jammu Akhnoor Pooch road; establishment of Receiving Station for Rajouri; and boosting tourism potential of Rajouri and Poonch.
Zulfkar drew Governor's attention to the need for implementing various relevant laws and earmarked budget provisions to promote the interests of the Tribal Community and reservation in promotion of SC and ST as per directions of the Supreme Court.
Sheikh Ishfaq Jabbar, MLA Ganderbal, called on Mr Vohra at the Raj Bhavan today. Jabbar informed Governor about the problems relating to the implementation of certain major development projects in Ganderbal district, particularly the non commencement of work to implement the New Ganderbal HE Power Project; function of the new Unani College and shifting of Central University Kashmir from Srinagar to Ganderbal.
Governor observed that Sheikh's concerns would be urgently looked into and urged him to continue his efforts for promoting a peaceful environment in his area.
Mian Altaf Ahmad, Member J&K Legislative Assembly from Kangan, called on Governor, spokesman said.
Mian Altaf informed Governor regarding the various major developmental issues which require high priority attention in his Constituency, particularly road connectivity and power generation, and issues relating to the implementation of development schemes for the tribal community in J&K.
The Governor and Mian Altaf also discussed issues relating to the ongoing Shri Amarnath Yatra.
Vohra appreciated Mian Altaf's concerns and urged him to continue sustained efforts for promoting harmony and people's welfare in his area.
