Farmers stage unique protest in Srinagar
Land Acquisition for Ring Road
7/18/2018 10:11:33 PM
Early Times Report
Srinagar, July 18: Framers affected by Semi Ring Road in Kashmir organized a unique protest by staging a play in Srinagar's Pratap Park which depicted the plight of farmers in J&K. The farmers pledged that they won't give land for the project in Jammu or Kashmir valley unless they are compensated fairly by the Government. They urged upon the Governor to pass on ordinance on land acquisition act in J&K so that farmers get benefited.
Details available with Early Times reveal that farmers under the banner of Semi Ring Road Land Owners Welfare Committee organized a massive protest in Srinagar calling upon authorities to give them similar compensation which is given in other states of country by National Highway Authority of India (NHAI). Unique part of the protest was emotional song and skit performed by Rayees Wathoori and Tanveer Bhat young theatre artists from Wathoora Budgam.
As reported already National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is constructing an alternate highway known as Srinagar Semi Ring Road connecting Gallandar Pampore with Ganderbal. The road passes via Khanda , Chattergam , Wathora, Buchroo , Lalgam , Gudsathoo , Ichgam , Budgam , Pallar , Dharmuna , Goripora , Mir Gund , Check e Razak Khan , Ranbir Grah and many other areas.
In the 1st phase, Gallandar to Sumbal project will be taken up and then in the 2nd phase Sumbal - Manigam (Ganderbal) road link will be executed . Most of the affected district will be Budgam as around 4700 kanals of land will be acquired . In Ganderbal 2341 Kanals of land will be acquired. The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) will be executing this project and the said authority has been already deposited the required funds into the accounts of respective Deputy Commissioners (DCs) . The process of payment of land compensation has already started.
" If National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) pays adequate compensation to the farmers / other persons whose land and property is acquired for construction of highways in other states of India why not in J&K . Our land In Kashmir valley as well as in Jammu is being forcibly occupied by NHAI and J&K Govt. Farmers in Jammu region and Kashmir valley are united for this cause and we are jointly fighting this battle " said Ali Mohammad Wani General Secretary Semi Ring Land Owners Welfare Committee
It is pertinent to mention that NHAI is also not ready for Private Negotiation which is a provision in J&K Land Acquisition Rules.
