Department of Fisheries fleecing visitors at Bagh-e Bahu Aquarium
Charging for photography in violation of order

Early Times Report

Jammu, July 18: The Department of Fisheries has allegedly been fleecing visitors at Bagh-e Bahu Aquarium by charging separately for photography apart from entry tickets in sheer violation of norms and propriety.
Sources told Early Times that the Aquarium cum Awareness Centre Bahu Fort is being run by Fisheries Department, which besides charging visitors for the entry tickets, is also charging for photography from Digital Cameras/ Video Camera and mobile camers at the rate of Rs. 50 and 20 respectively, eventhough there is no such statute.
"The Directorate of Fisheries Jammu had issued an Order no. 539 of 2011 dated 26-03-2011 which provides that entry tickets at Aquarium cum Awareness Center Bahu Fort Jammu will be Rs. 20- & 10 for adult and child respectively besides photography ticket from Digital Cameras/video Camera and Photography by mobile charges will remain Rs. 50 and 20 respectively. In the above order, the Directorate Jammu had given reference of the Government Order no. 254-F of 1995 dated 29-11-1995, which give powers to Directorate for passing order," they said further adding that the fact of the matter is that the Government order no. 254-F of 1995 dated 29-11-1995 is meant for delegation of powers to the Director Fisheries to fix sale price of fishes and nowhere it was mentioned that it can charge the entry fee or photography charges which shows that the order no. 539 of 2011 dated 26-03-2011 was passed by it arbitrarily, without any authorization.
They further said that fleecing visitors for the photography actually defeated the purpose of creating awareness about various types of the fishes among the people particularly the children but the additional charge for photography discouraged the visitors and presented the department in poor light.
