SRINAGAR, July 29: After massive protest over the termination of over three dozen MGNREGA employees by the state government Director Rural Development Department and Panchayat Raj Kashmir today said that demands of striking employees of the MGNREGA are under active consideration of the government.
However, the striking employees continue their protest and called for written assurance from the government with regard to regularization of their services as well as the salary hike with immediate effect.
Speaking to Early Times Director RDD&PR, Qazi Sarwar said that the demands were under active consideration of the government adding that previous government had assured them with regard to regularization of their services and other demands but with the fall of the government and imposition of governor rule in the state, the issue could not be addressed.
He said that the issue has been brought into the notice of Secretary RDD & Secretariat level and same is being reviewed by the present government during the meeting schedule for August 3. He said that department is preparing the draft with regard to their demands including salary hike, absorption in the department and other benefits and said that whatever is in the interest of employees and the government, same will be done.
He said that the issue required some time to settle down as after floating the proposal with regard to various demands of the striking employees, it will go through various steps including the concurrence from the finance department. He said that the agitating employees also called on him and put forth their views and demands.
He said that he assured them that he will take up the issue with the government and will work towards addressing them. He said that if the employees resumes their duties, they will look into the issue of consider the revocation of termination orders of the striking employees.
He said that strike did not resolve the issue as people are suffering added that their salaries are directly proportional to the work progress under various centrally sponsored schemes.
Reacting to the suspension of the MGNREGA employees, a NREGA employee Jan Mohammad said that the termination of employees is illegal and called upon the government to revoke them without any fail. He said that they will continue their protest and are ready to scarify their lives. He said that in case the government didn't stop harassing the employees, they will turn violent.
Yet another employee Tariq Zara said that termination of MGNREGA employees is a condemnable act and in case the government didn't stop pressure tactics and harassing them, they will not hesitate to go for self immolation at Lal Chowk. He said that they were only demanding their rights.
Meanwhile, ACD Kishtwar Anil Kumar Chandail issued show cause notice to 41 MGNREGA employees of District Kishtwar that why their services could not be terminated for taking part in illegal strike and low performance under various centrally sponsored scheme. ACD Kishtwar asked the striking employees to resume duty in two days or their services will be terminated as per the service rules.
