Govt formation in J&K: But from where BJP will get numbers?
7/29/2018 11:46:59 PM
Early Times Report

JAMMU, July 29: The J&K BJP has not dropped the idea of forming a coalition government in the state. It has said that it is not for the continuation of Governor rule in the state for a longer period and that it is looking for number for the formation of coalition government in the state. At the same, time, the BJP has made it clear that it would never form government with the PDP.
"We are looking for numbers and then we can form new government in the state. The BJP was not in favour of dissolving the assembly. We want there should be a government and people should be benefited," said J&K BJP general secretary (organization) on Saturday in an interview. He added that "the BJP is not in favour of prolonged Governor rule in J&K" and that "there could be some who might be in touch with the high command".
Ashok Koul also gave everyone to understand that the estrangement between the BJP and the PDP was complete and that the BJP will never stitch an alliance with the PDP. "It was quite impossible for the BJP to form a government with the PDP again," he said. The PDP has 27 lawmakers in the Assembly.
Ashok Koul says that the BJP is looking for numbers. It is obvious that it is looking towards other political parties in the state. The other political parties are the NC and the Congress. The NC has 15 lawmakers in the assembly and the Congress 12. Added together, both these parties have 27 MLAs. Can the BJP form coalition government with the NC and the Congress? Leave aside this. Will the NC and the Congress, whose whole politics is based on anti-BJP rhetoric in the state and across the country, will ever shake hands with the BJP?
Of course, nothing is impossible in politics. But given the nature of politics the various political parties play in the state, especially Kashmir which elects 46 MLAs, the NC and the Congress will never shake hands with the BJP, which has only 25 MLAs.
Earlier, another BJP senior leader and minister had claimed that "the BJP was exploring the possibility of forming coalition government in alliance with 'like-minded' MLAs". Where are those like-minded MLAs? The PDP, the NC and the Congress MLAs could not be termed as "like-minded".
The point is that the BJP is only fooling itself. It knows that the possibility of government formation in the state is too remote and still it makes statements which carry no meaning. It only wants status quo so that it continues to boast that it has 25 MLAs. Its main agenda is to repeat 2014 in 2019 and win both the Lok Sabha seats in Jammu. It feels that the 25 MLAs are its assets and they can help the BJP replicate 2014 in 2019.
