Early Times Report

JAMMU, July 29: The junior doctors of Government Medical College and Hospital (GMC&H) Jammu are facing a number of difficulties during night shift especially female doctors as corridors of some wards are without light and there is no ward boy available for shifting the patient from one place to another.
Moreover, the female staff has to work under fear as outsiders and drunkards roam on stairs, ramps as well as around the wards.
As per junior doctors, there are a number of facilities provided by the hospital administration but they have to work on certain basic issues so that the treating doctors especially female staff can do their duties without any fear.
"Before discussing the issues which are need to be addressed, I want to share an incident which took place a few days back with a female doctor of the Medicine Department, who was shifting a patient from ward to emergency, after deteriorating patient's health, as she reached corridors of ward 8-9, there was no light and unfortunately, few boys who were seemingly under the influence an alcohol roamed on-ramp, "a doctor, seeking anonymity, told.
"She was scared when she was returning back after shifting the patient from the ward as few drunkards were roaming around the stairs and ramp of the hospital, "he claimed. The doctor also said that the corridors of ward no 8-9, ward no 15 even backsides of the same ward are without light, owing to which patients, attendants and staff of the hospital have to suffer a lot. The unwanted people i.e drunk-men, some other neither they are neither employees nor attendants of the patients, roam around the different wards, ramps, and stairs of the hospital.
He further added that then no difficult is being faced when the patient has to shift the patient from ward to emergency because the attendants are with the doctor but the difficulty comes when female staff has to return back alone. There is direly need of a ward boy, who will accompany the doctor during shifting patient.
Besides, doctors are working in various wards of the hospital during the night do not have drinking water in the respective wards. The hospital administration has installed water cooler but the doctor cannot drink water from them as they never cleaned even people wash utensils there.
