DC asks Revenue staff to work till 8 pm
Bizarre diktat
7/29/2018 11:46:54 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, July 29: In an attempt to appease the Governor's administration, a Deputy Commissioner has issued a bizarre order directing the subordinate staff of Revenue department in his district to remain in their respective offices till 8 pm on all working days.
The unprecedented order has been issued by the DC, a female IAS officer, on the ground that her own office works up to 8 pm daily and hence every subordinate Revenue office must remain open till this time.
However, the order has raised many eyebrows and criticism not only among the subordinate Revenue staff but also in the bureaucracy.
Such orders are sometimes issued by various departments but only in the case of emergency like situations. Further, before issuing the said order, this IAS officer forgot that the officials working in Revenue offices are neither machines nor having allotted official vehicles.
"The DC may go home any time because an official vehicle along with securitymen has been allotted to her but what about the subordinate staff, particularly females? Who will leave the office after 8 pm and then catch some public transport for reaching home?" asked a Revenue official on the condition of anonymity.
"For achieving some target within a stipulated time or in case of any emergency, we are ready to work for 24 hours but not to satisfy ego of an officer who is least bothered about the difficulties of subordinates," added another official while pointing out that even in private institutions, maximum working hours are eight only.
These Revenue officials have appealed Governor N N Vohra to look into the matter and direct the said DC to immediately withdraw such controversial order, which has been issued only to satisfy own ego and
score numbers.
