7/29/2018 11:19:56 PM
Early Times Report

Akhnoor, July 29: Former Minister and senior Congress leader Sham Lal Sharma reminded Regional Council for Jammu Region by voicing that the funds to Jammu Region should be allocated as per District and Population share on the pattern of Leh and Kargil Hill Development Councils.
He said that the Council for the Jammu Region should be autonomous in nature.
While addressing Block Congress Committee Workers meeting at Maira Mandarian, he said that now the time has come to grant regional autonomy to Jammu and other regions of the state in order to put an end to the disparity among the three regions and to frustrate designs of disintegrating the State. He observed that granting regional autonomy would help in empowering all regions and of the State. Sharma reminded that in the working Group headed by Justice Sagheer had recommended regional autonomous council. While recommending this the all parties of the state were taken on board.
Sham further said that the National conference, off late, is also in favour of granting regional autonomy to all the three regions of the state.
He further said that allowing regional autonomy has been enjoined in congress party's manifesto for the years 2008 and 2014.
Sham Lal Sharma reiterated Congress party demand for grant of fully empowered regional councils to Jammu & Kashmir particularly the Jammu region. He said that the BJP has also passed a resolution for grant of regional council to Jammu & Kashmir.
Sham questioned BJP as to why they have not made any headway towards formation of regional council when they were in power in the state and at the centre?
Accusing the BJP, Sham said that there has been injustice with Jammu region on all fronts may it be employment, development of Jammu region and providing basic amenities to the people of Jammu. He said that the BJP considers it as the only sympathizers of Jammu people but the region suffered the most during its regime.
Speaking on the occasion, Ex-MP and senior Congress leader Madan Lal Sharma also hit out at the previous BJP-PDP government accusing it of betraying the people of Jammu and not fulfilling the promises BJP had made to them.
