KVK Poonch conducts programme for farmers

Poonch, Sept 16: Krishi Vigyan Kendra Poonch of SKUAST-Jammu under the patronage of Directorate of Extension conducted a programme for farmers at KVK Poonch. The programme is being conducted under the guidance of Dr. P.K. Sharma, Vice Chancellor, SKUAST-Jammu, Dr. R.K. Arora, ADEE & I/c. KVKs, SKUAST-J. Speaking on the occasion, Dr Ajay Gupta, Sr. Scientist & Head, KVK, Poonch informed about various activities of Krishi Vigyan Kendra for the upliftment of farming community.
He informed that KVK is always working for the development of farmers, rural youth and farm women through various centrally sponsored schemes viz. awareness programmes on Govt. schemes, soil health, demonstrations of seed and planting material, promotion of backyard poultry. He said that eggs and meat from poultry can be a source of nutrition for farm women in addition to economic upliftment as majority of the people particularly women, adolescent girls and children in rural areas are suffering from malnutrition. He also discussed importance of poultry farming as one of the major sources of rural economy. Dr Muzafar Mir, scientist, KVK, Poonch elaborated about main components of tribal Sub plan to the stakeholders which include capacity building of tribal farmers/ farm women, demonstration at panchayat levels and promotion of backyard poultry etc. for the upliftment of tribal families. Dr. Muneeshwar Sharma informed the media persons that four thousand seven hundred and fifty three (4753) poultry chicks are distributed today to the beneficiaries under this programme.
