Early Times Report

Srinagar, Sept 16: That the Golf Development Authority is on Papers only can be gauged from the fact that incumbent Managing Director of has failed to take over single Golf Course despite the passage of over four years now.
A group of golfers also demanded removal of incumbent Managing Director Golf Development Authority and alleged that officer, who is also secretary of Royal Spring Golf Course, has failed to deliver.
In 2013 NC-Congress coalition government constituted Golf Development and Management Authority to streamline golfing activities. The authority was mandated to maintain, manage and promote all types of golf infrastructure and to establish golf information centers and golf courses, however after four years the authority hasn't taken over Golf Courses from Tourism department and Tourism Development Authority's' .
The Golf Development Authority was also mandated to hold Golf tournaments but again it was done any remarkable effort in this regard as, say sources in the Tourism department.
In Srinagar, the prestigious Royal Springs Golf Course, previously the Salim Ali National Park is situated at the foot hills of Zabarwan mountains overlooking Dal Lake is allegedly losing its sheen and efficacy.
A golfer wishing anonymity told Early Times that many golf courses in the State are in "pathetic condition" due to non-seriousness of successive governments. He said that NC-congress government posted a junior officer to man the Golf Development Authority and surprisingly previous government allowed him to continue without checking his previous work in the Authority or at Royal Spring Golf Course.
"Instead of streamlining and managing Golf Courses as per norms of game, they (officers) have destroyed them," he alleged.
Sources revealed to Early Times that the incumbent Managing Director of Golf Development Authority, who is also Secretary of Royal Spring Golf Course, is overstaying at both places but isn't being shifted because he allegedly enjoys proximity with top politicians and bureaucrats-habitual of not paying fee for playing Golf.
"They [politicians and bureaucrats] always come to defend him," they said and appealed Governor Stayapal Malik to take a review of Golf Development Authority and ensure removal of incompetent officers.
