SRINAGAR, Sept 16: Nine people sustained injuries in a massive blaze in a shopping complex at Uri Sunday.
Sources quoting the local residents of Uri town as having said that, the mini gas cylinder catches the fire after which there was a blast in which many people got injured.
They said that the devastating fire incident at the complex left nine persons injured. Two shops and a residential flat in a complex also gutted completely, however, there were no immediate reports of the cause of the fire.
The injured persons were identified as Mohammad Hafiz Sheikh, 35, a resident of Jabla, Ajaz Kali, 45, of Uri, Azad Ahmad, 30, of Uri, Abdul Majid, 60,of Sukhdar, Abdul Ganai, 30, of Nambla, Bashir Ahmed, 30, of Gingle, Khurshid Ahmed, 32 of Boniyar, Mohammad Abdulla Lone, 50, a resident of Uri, and Raqib Ahmad, 35, from Bandi Uri.
However sources said that, Bashir Ahmad has got serious burn injuries and he was referred to SKIMS Sgr for advanced treatment.
The injured persons were rushed to Sub District hospital Uri, from where seven have been referred to district hospital Baramulla for the specialized treatment.
Meanwhile, a team of Fire and Emergency men were also rushed to the spot, and with the help of locals they managed to douse off the flames and saved the nearby shops from the fire.
Sources also alleged that there were at least 4-5 ambulances in Uri Sub District Hospital, but no vehicle has carried the injured ones to other hospitals of the district, as the driver was not present.
Reports said general public carried the injured patients into their own vehicles, like Taveera, Tata Sumo, private vehicles,as the ambulance drivers were absent enjoying Sunday.
Unfortunate part is that, having more than 1.50 lakh population in Uri, they have only one fire extinguisher, and the government is unmoved to provide the basic facilities to this town, sources told ET.
