Early Times Report

Jammu, Sept 30: A very lively function was held at the Brig Rajinder Singh Hall in Jammu University to commemorate the ongoing Surgical Strike celebrations in the country.
In a very informative and detailed talk, the resource person Dogra Ratan Maj Gen Goverdhan Singh Jamwal, AVSM gave the historical background of the region. He covered the period of how the British systematically reduced the Moguls, the Maratha dynasty, the Rajwaras of Rajasthan, the Bundels and the Nawabs of UP and Bengal.
He pointed out that only the Sikhs lasted longest who were helped by the Dogras who held most important portfolios in the Durbar of Maharaja Ranjit Singh. In a detailed talk he covered the formation of present J&K State, the exploits of General Zorawar Singh that extended the boundaries of Dogra Empire up to Gilgit, Baltistan.
The 90 year old veteran General in a very convincing lecture elaborated details of the 100 years of Dogra rule based of secularism, gender equality, educational development and 'justice' above all. He gave many examples of sacrifices by the Dogras in pre and post independence eras in defending, saving and consolidating the State.
The veteran General was assisted by Veteran distinguished warrior turned journalist Col Dr Virendra K Sahi, Vir Chakta who was at the centre of attraction among the students and staff.
Replying to a question on the Surgical Strike the gallant warrior gave excerpts from a presentation on the Surgical Strike that contained clock time details of the strike, the tactical methodology supported by pictures of the Pakistani casualties as published by the Pakistan media on 30 Sept 2016 onwards.
He narrated the vitals of the covert operation now released for public to a spellbound audience interrupted only by hilarious cheers and slogans in glory of our Indian Army, our soldiers and the Bharat Maata ki jai. Many students gathered around the warrior to take 'selfies' with him and seek details of entry into the armed forces.
