BJP harps on Tawi river front project again
9/30/2018 11:30:21 PM
Early Times Report

JAMMU, Sept 30: After failing to complete the hyped Tawi lake project during last three years of its tenure in the Government in alliance with PDP, the BJP today in its poll manifesto again promised to construct the Tawi river front on the pattern of Sabarmati River in Gujarat and declared that tenders for RS 130 crore project will be opened on October 13. This was stated by former Deputy CM and BJP MLA Gandhi Nagar, Kavinder Gupta after releasing the party's manifesto for Jammu Municipal elections here today. While responding to people's queries former Minister who held the charge of Urban Development department said that Tawi lake was not viable and it was not designed properly hence the project design will be changed by river front on the pattern of Sabatmati in Ahmedabad Gujarat.
However there was such a contradiction in BJP over this prestigious project that the then Minister in charge PHE last year said that work on the Tawi Lake project will be started soon and he did not make any mention of river front project.
This simply revealed that there was confusion within BJP over the project.
Going by the past announcements by BJP, it is presumed that Kavinder Gupta is not misleading the public opinion so far as river Tawi front is concerned.
The people of Jammu are anxiously waiting for the day when the foundation of the project is laid.
It may be recalled that Tawi lake was conceived by a Congress leader from Valley who reportedly is possessing huge land at Beli Charana, allegedly to appreciate the value of his land.
However with PDP, BJP coming to power in 2014 they changed the design of the project.
However Government did not initiate action against those officers who had put public exchequer to a huge loss for a project which was technically not feasible.
