Early Times Report

Srinagar, Sept 30: The twin regional parties of Kashmir, otherwise arch-rivals, are fast establishing communication channels.
Highly placed sources told Early Times that since the day senior leader of the Peoples Democratic Party Syed Altaf Bukhari suggested that the PDP and National Conference should form government in the state to fight for safeguard of Article 35 A, the twin parties are coming closer. Sources said the leaders from the two parties may soon a formal meeting to fix up modalities for the prospective alliance.
Sources said the suggestion for prospective alliance was pitched only after a "secret meeting" between a senior PDP leader and his counterpart from National Conference.
Sources said a NC leader from Central Kashmir's Kangan area was in contact with a PDP leader from Amira Kadal constituency and it was after an understanding between the two that one of them made the formal suggestion for alliance between the arch rivals.
Sources said since then more and more leaders from the two sides are getting in contact with each other.
Sources said a senior leader of National Conference has asked his loyalists to not only welcome the decision but to also raise communication channels at their own levels as well.
Sources said since then many of other leaders have opened communication channels. Sources said a Political Secretary in one of the parties has been trying to explore communication channels with the PDP through a female politician from his party who had last year joined the PDP.
Sources said the NC leader has told his former colleague that she could play a major role in getting the two parties closer and that she should "use her good offices for the same as she enjoys good rapport with senior leaders in the other camp."
Sources said both the parties believe that it would be better for their interests to keep BJP at bay through an alliance in the state.
Sources said one family which has major control on the National Conference has been keen to make a breakthrough and that all the leaders close to them have been asked not to waste the opportunity.
Sources said the two sides are maintaining a constant contact and talk on phone to each other on regular basis.
