Kathua, Sept 30: In a major embarrassment, Congress party has failed to find any candidates to contest on its tickets for the Lakhanpur Municipal Committee in Kathua district, setting the stage for a direct contest between BJP and the independents.
Interestingly, the independents are backed by rebel BJP candidate and former Minister Choudhary Lal Singh whose brother Rajinder Singh Bubby and his wife Upasana Andotra have also filed their nominations.
In 2005 local body Elections, Congress won Municipal Committee Lakhanpur and got seat of president for five years. "This time, Congress failed to field the candidate in ULB election which is a reflection of party's condition in the coming 2019 Election in Jammu Province," Anil Sharma the local resident of Lakhanpur said. Kathua District president of the Congress Dr Manohar Lal sharma did not respond to repeated calls. Meanwhile Dr Jatinder Singh, Mos PMO who attended the BJP Meeting at Kathua on Sunday addressing the workers said This election is between BJP and Independent Candidates and people had made their minds to vote for BJP in local body Election. |
