10/2/2018 8:27:25 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, Oct 2:Expressing grief over the demise of the veteran activist Bhagwat Sawaroop, the former Union Minister, Prof. Chaman Lal Gupta said that Bhagwat was a most dedicated Swyam Sewak and devoted his entire life to serve the society in various capacities from a RSS Parcharak to organizing Secretary of Praja Parishad, Pradesh unit of the BJS to BJP as a humble activist.
He served the cause of unity and integration of J&K with the Union of India. He said that under great stewardship of Pt. Prem Nath Dogra, Bhagwat, successfully established the units of Praja Parishad and BJS at far off places including the valley. Recalling the national outlook of Bhagwat, Prof. Gupta said that initially it was the suggestion of Bhagwat that Praja Parishad should be merged with BJS, an all India organization, to have integration of the State at the level of the people. This was welcomed at all levels and thus the merger of Praja Parishad with BJS took place in late 1964.
Taking cue of the merger of Praja Parishad with BJS to have integration of the state at mass level, the Congress too, in January 1965 decided to have its direct unit of PCC in J&K and thus the National Conference led by G M Sadiq had merged with the AICC and for first time the Predesh Congress had first time come to power in J&K. Prof. Gupta said that Bhagawat was really a ground level worker who worked like a Rishi. His services would be long remembered.
