Timber smugglers jump naka; Ranger's hand suspected
High voltage drama at Kathua
10/2/2018 10:51:16 PM
Early Times Report
Jammu, Oct 2: In a high voltage drama at Kathua district, willow cleft smugglers managed to escape from police allegedly with the help of two civilians and an official of Forest department.
A truck loaded with willow clefts and bearing registration number JK13A-9512 was taken to Lakhanpur by a Ranger. In the meantime a police party from police station Lakhnapur reached the spot, where a minor scuffle took place, but the police managed to take the truck to police station Lakhanpur.
Sources said the police have seized the truck but failed to register an FIR in this connection.
Inspector Susheel Sharma, the SHO Lakhanpur, confirmed that they have taken the truck to police station and said that an FIR could not be registered as the Forest officials were not present there to check the truck.
But if sources are to be believed, an attempt was being made to shield an influential Ranger against whom there are already several FIRs including smuggling of willow clefts and polythene.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kathua Shridar Patil did not pick up repeated phone calls from this newspaper.
It is pertinent to mention here that Vigilance Organization of Jammu (VOJ) on 29-7-2017 registered an FIR against the said Ranger under section 5 (1) (a) r/w 5 (2) J&K PC Act 2006 for acquiring disproportionate assets.
Another FIR has been registered against the Ranger in the police station Lakhanpur in the year of 2017 after a truck belonging to the said Ranger was seized with 30 quintals of banned polythene bags.
The Forest department had also initiated inquiry against the same Ranger who along with a Forester and a forest guard was travelling in a car and they abstracted the seizure process by parking their vehicle before the loaded truck outside the PFP Complex Narwal Jammu and used abusive language and caused hindrance during checking of a truck carrying un-finished willow clefts on 2-1-2012.
