China keen to improve ties with India
10/2/2018 10:23:54 PM
If the Wuhan vision of Chinese
President, XI Jinping and Prime Minister, Narendra Modi is translated into action there is possibility for promoting cordial relations between India and China. There is a new momentum in Sino-Indian relations and work is on to translate the Wuhan vision of President Xi Jingping and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who have already met thrice this year and a fourth meeting is in the works The ties between India and China have witnessed ups and downs because of border conflict and Doklam stand off. However, during the last one year the relations between the two sides have improved and that indicates that Xi Jinping and Moldi could hold an informal summit at Wuhan which serves as a milestone in smoothening the ties between India and China. During the past one year the ties have been stabilized. And China believes that through better communication, cooperation, contacts and coordination an d control the relations could witness further improvement.
In the past three months Modi and Jinping the two leaders have met three times and the two may meet again in G-20 summit in Argentina. Recently Defence Minister of China visited India and other senior Government functionaries are visiting India and this could promote people to people contact and the Chinese officials are optimistic about further improvement in the bilateral relations. The two sides have built a strong momentum for better ties and China is prepared to reduce tariff on goods imported from India and that could motivate India to increase imports of Chinese goods and export of Indian goods.
The bilateral trade has touched 55 billion dollars and there are expectations that the quantum of bilateral trade may witness 15 per cent increase. Apart from trading non-Basmati rice, sugar and other agricultural products. There is a possibility for exporting from India medicines to China and this may improve trade structure. However, it depends on Pakistan as to what should be the limits of better ties between China and India. If Pakistan wants China, its permanent friend, to cut short trade and cooperations China may listen to Pakistan's suggestions because there is much involved in Pakistan, like the military bases. Hence China too has its independent foreign policy and it may not go by the guidance of Pakistan because China knows it better than any other country that India and the US are drawing close to each other which may pose a problem for China.
