Alleging mismanagement JKCA committee member puts in papers
10/2/2018 10:37:06 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, Oct 2: Nothing seems to be going right with the Jammu & Kashmir cricket team as a senior official today resigned as committee member alleging that Jammu & Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) is dancing to the tunes of mentor cum player Irfan Pathan.
The resignation comes days after some of the former senior cricketers resigned as selectors. Pathan is having a contract with the JKCA for this season as a mentor and a player but his alleged interference into the selection process has triggered controversy. "I am taking this step of opting out of JKCA Cricket Committee that was appointed to facilitate the Chief Executive Officer to run the affairs of the Association," Sham Swaroop Kalsotra, a committee member wrote in his resignation letter submitted to JKCA.
Salsotra said that he has been forced to quit as things were not happening as per the laid down rules and norms. "The JKCA never felt to consult or even inform the legally selected members in cricketing matters," he said adding that the team selectors for seniors have resigned and neither any action was initiated from the Association nor a call for action.
"I was never in favour of quota system for regions. But the way things are being handled, this cannot be over looked," he said and added that there are many other examples of mishandling of the team but none raised a question on it.
Kalsotra alleged that JKCA has weaved a cocoon round them and seems impervious to the team performance or the performance of Pathan. He said that while Association is delaying the implementation of recommendations of Lodha Committee and also the Supreme Court orders.
"It seems that the senior selectors were not satisfied with the way things were happening and interference of Pathan, so they opted out. This should have sent a message to Association but nothing has happened," he said.
Kalsotra said that some important and talented players have been neglected by the tour selection committee for reasons best known to them. He said the batsmen and bowlers who fared well in recent past are not being given a raw deal. Pertinent to mention here that JKCA has lost six matches in a row in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Cricket Tournament being played at Chennai.
