Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, Oct 4: Resentment is brewing among the leaders of National Conference amid rumors that a senior most leader of the party is in constant touch with a "rebel" who recently resigned from the party to contest the urban local body polls.
While the gossip was already on in the public circles that NC has fielded the "rebel as proxy", now many of the senior leaders of NC are of the same opinion.
Sources said the NC leadership has got to know from reliable sources said one of the top leaders, who recently returned from abroad after month-long vacations in Europe and the United States of America has been in touch with the member, who has filed nomination papers to contest the polls for the Srinagar Municipal Corporation.
Sources said apart from phone calls, the duo frequently share messages especially on issues of politics on their mobile phones.
Sources said the NC leader had been enjoying "very cordial" relation with the "rebel". Source said the duo is keenly monitoring the public response towards the urban local body polls.
Sources said much before leaving the NC, the "rebel" had already conveyed to his "boss" that the former was planning to leave the party.
Sources said the "boss had told the junior to wait till he returns from abroad." It was reliably learnt that the "rebel" had discussed the plan with the "boss" after his return and that "both had agreed to the plan."
Source said the NC leadership is upset with the "clandestine relations" and that many of the leaders have decided to pick up the matter with party president Dr Farooq Abdullah.
"How can you continue to hold personal relations with someone who slapped on the face of the party? Or should we presume that he is proxy candidate of our own party. We need replies to our questions from the party president as we want clarity," said a NC leader on the condition of anonymity.
Sources said the NC leadership is preparing a letter that will be shot to senior Abdullah in the coming days.
"We'll seek a time bound reply from him because otherwise the reputation of our party, discipline and integrity are at stake," said a senior leader.
Despite repeated attempts the two leaders in question couldn't be contacted for comments.
