ULB Elections: 584 polling stations established in Jammu

JAMMU, Oct 7: With polling for Urban Local Body elections in District Jammu scheduled for Monday (October 08), sealed Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and other election material for 584 polling stations were handed over to the Polling Officers and Polling Parties here today under the supervision of District Election Officer, Ramesh Kumar.
The polling staff gathered at Polytechnic College, Jammu around 10 am where the DEO assigned them the election duty. The DEO informed that all polling stations including 505 polling stations for One Municipal Corporation Jammu and 79 for Seven Municipal Committees are ready for polling.
Before opening the polling booths for voters, the polling staff will conduct mock poll to test the EVMs at 6 am on the polling day at all booths. Polling agents of the candidates will cast mock votes, the DEO informed. He asked the Polling Officers to ensure zero voting in control unit after the Mock Poll process.
He further informed that reserved EVMs have been kept to ensure replacement in case of any technical snag. The polling parties will seal the control units after polling and hand over it along with EVMs at the collection centre on Monday evening, he added.
He said for the first time, Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) will be used in the ULB polls , for which proper training has been imparted to the polling staff.
Sufficient polling staff has been deployed for the election apart from around adequate security personnel are deployed for maintaining law and order, the DEO said, adding that, Observers, Micro Observers, Zonal and Sectoral Officers are appointed to ensure independent, free and fair elections.
The DEO appealed the voters to turn up in maximum numbers at their respective polling stations on poll day to exercise their Right to Vote in choosing their representatives. He further informed that a joint Control Room of Police and Civil Administration has been set up for the smooth flow of election related information.
