Is CEO JK aware of open MCC violation by BJP leaders?
Ravinder Raina, Priya Sethi, Munish Sharma appeal for votes during forbidden period
10/7/2018 10:39:21 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, Oct 7: The state leaders of Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) were found openly violating the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) guidelines issued by Election Commission of Jammu and Kashmir, by appealing the masses to vote for the party candidates in Municipal elections through social networking sites, few hours before the voting actually begin, which is a forbidden time for campaigning.
According to the MCC guidelines issued by the Office of Chief Electoral Officer Jammu and Kashmir, it is written in part-A, which reads, "During the period of 24 hours preceding the start of polling, no person shall: ii, display to the public any election matter by means of cinematograph, television including internet protocol television, satellite, terrestrial or cable channels, mobile and such other media either owned by the Government or private person or by booth or other similar apparatus".
Showing thumb to the MCC guidelines BJP state president Ravinder Raina uploaded a video of 2:35 minutes at 2:57 PM on Sunday on his official Faceboook timeline, appealing people for vote for BJP in JMC elections.
The 2:35 minute video was available on the timeline of BJP president till 7:25 PM in the Sunday evening.
Similarly Priya Sethi former Cultural Minister during PDP-BJP coalition government, updated her status on Facebook timeline at nearly 5: 25 PM on Sunday by appealing people to vote for BJP. Her status reads, "Jammu......Vote for B.J.P.....#JammusupprotsBJP". Her facebook profile timeline had this status till 7:25 PM on Sunday evening.
Moreover, BJP leader Munish Sharma also updated his Facebook timeline on Sunday at nearly 9:30 AM appealing people of Ward number 12 and 13 to vote for party candidates with photographs of Prime Minister Narender Modi, Amit Shah, Dr Jatinder Singh, Party President Ravinder Raina and Munish Sharma.
The BJP leaders were so disrespectful of the MCC guidelines that the status of Munish Sharma was still on the timeline of Munish Sharma also till 7:30 PM on Sunday evening.
According to the MCC guidelines, all type of election campaign came to an end 24 hours before the actual voting begins and the voting in various wards of JMC is scheduled to begin at 7 AM on Monday morning but there was utter disregard to the MCC guidelines by BJP leaders.
"This is not unintentional but an intentional violation of MCC by BJP leaders as they knew that nothing is going to happen against them because they think the government is under their control", an official said, adding that but the CEO Shaleen Kabra must initiate action against these leaders for violation of MCC.
