Hundreds of Poonch schools without electricity, water

Poonch, Oct 21: Hundreds of schools in this border district are said to be functioning without any electricity and water facilities besides toilets and washrooms while as crores of rupees were spent on the up gradation of schools under various central government sponsored schemes sources said here today.
According to an estimate in all the 11 education zones of the district 900 schools were without electricity while as 342 students have no water facility. Source said in the digital era, the school children of this border district have no bulbs, or any heating gadget in their class rooms
It is pertinent to mention that education department has been spending crores of rupees on the up gradation of the schools but these schools even lack basic amenities what to talk of other things. The children who have to bring water bottles along with them besides huge bags of thick books was injustice with them. The functioning of these schools was a slap on the education department which has failed to provide necessary amenities to school children and staff
Chief Education officer Mushtaq Ahmed when contacted told Early Times that it was fact that several hundred schools were without basic amenities. In some cases work has been done but most of the schools have to go through such a grave problem and it affect directly an children. He said since we have been intimating the higher authorities time to time about the requirements and as soon as we get some response we will be able to provide facility to all the schools on priority CEO added.
