Police commemoration day observed

Jammu, Oct, 21: On Police Commemoration Day, Country today, remembered the sacrifice of Police persons who attained martyrdom, to maintain the integrity of our nation. Police commemoration day is celebrated on October 21st every year in honor and remembrance of CAPF personnel who sacrificed their lives while defending the borders with China in 1959. Since then, the Day marks the memory of the police personnel killed on duty during the year.
Ram Awtar-IG BSF, Jammu, officers and all ranks paid tribute to the martyrs on 21st Oct 2018, at Martyr's Memorial at BSF Camp Paloura.
IG BSF laid wreath and paid homage to the police personnel who laid down their lives in the line of duty. At this occasion, while addressing the gathering, IG BSF gratitude that we salutes the valour And courage of Police Forces and tribute our warriors who made ultimate sacrifice protecting national integrity. Reading out the names of police martyrs, IG BSF briefed that during last one year total 414 Police/ Paramilitary person laid their lives in the service to the national, out of which 42 belong to BSF, which is highest among the paramilitary forces. Out of these,12 Bordermen including Assistant Commandant Jitender, laid supreme sacrifice during fierce firing initiated by Pakistan, are from Jammu Frontier. It is apt to mention that BSF apart from manning Pakistan and Bangladesh border is also deployed in anti naxal operation in Chhattisgarh & Odisha and for counter insurgency operations in north east states.
Majority of the police personnel died in firing from Pakistan, fighting militancy in Jammu and Kashmir, Naxals and other law and order duties.
Meanwhile, Sandeep Khatri Commandant 89th Battalion remembered the sacrifice of martyrs who sacrificed their lives while defending the borders and a blood donation camp was also organized at Battalion Headquarters. The camp was inaugurated by the Chairman of Battalion BSF Wife Welfare Association (BWWA)-Anu Khatri where many officials donated blood.
